The Mayor of Novi Sad, Milan Đurić, received in the City Hall a delegation of the Republic of Srpska, which is visiting Serbia on the occasion of the Days of Srpska in Serbia event.

The President of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of the Republic of Srpska, academician Rajko Kuzmanović, presented Đurić with the Encyclopedia of the Republic of Srpska, promoted the night before in the Grand Hall of the SASA Branch in Novi Sad, announced the Mayor’s office.

He said that the Encyclopedia of the Republic of Srpska was a work containing a large quantity of information about the history, culture, personalities and events that had shaped the Republic of Srpska and that more than 200 authors had been involved in its creation.

Đurić wished the guests a warm welcome to Novi Sad and thanked them for the significant present and said that it was extremely important to know and understand the culture and history of our people, and that books could not be replaced by digital devices and computers.

The Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Srpska, Željka Stojičić, expressed the Provincial Government of Vojvodina’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with Srpska in the fields of culture, science, art and education.

After the meeting with the Mayor of Novi Sad, Milan Đurić, and provincial secretaries for culture, Dragan Milošević, and for higher education and scientific research, Zoran Milošević, Stojičić said that the Provincial Government was a great supporter, partner and sincere friend of Srpska.

She thanked the line secretariat for its readiness to be a partner to Srpska’s cultural institutions in numerous projects, and expressed the expectation that cooperation would be achieved in other fields as well.

‘I hope that the cooperation will not only be based on the principle of support and assistance from the Provincial Government and the Government of Serbia, but that we will develop on a level and that Srpska will measure against Serbia in terms of knowledge and skills, thus creating a unique space for intensive work’, said Stojičić.

The Provincial Secretary for Higher Education and Scientific Research, Zoran Milošević, said that it was important for higher education to show sensibility for sincere partnership.

‘It is important for us that students from Srpska see the University of Novi Sad as their own, but we also want the universities in Banja Luka and Istočno Sarajevo to be a place attended by students from Vojvodina because it is their university’, said Milošević.

According to him, in the past three years, 42 projects were completed, while more than 144 researchers from the Republic of Srpska collaborated as partners on the projects of Novi Sad University.

The Provincial Secretary for Culture, Dragana Milošević, reminded that a cooperation protocol between the Provincial Secretariat and Srpska’s Ministry of Education and Culture had been signed in May.

She said that the meeting had also discussed potential cooperation of the Serbian National Theater and Subotica National Theater with relevant theaters in Srpska.

The Head of the Republic of Srpska Representation in Serbia, Mlađen Cicović, who participated in the meeting, pointed out that relations between the two countries had never been better.

‘Only collected and united can we defend and save ourselves from all challenges’, Cicović said.

As part of Srpska Days in Serbia, Gradiška City Theater performed the play Miropomazani (The Anointed) in the Novi Sad Cultural Center last night.

The Ministry of Education and Culture of Srpska supported this play within Reci naglas competition for the best unpublished dramatic text.
