The premiere of the poetic cabaret Deca by the Vienna Youth Theater, performing as part of SECC Prosvjeta, was held last week in the iconic Ateliertheater in Vienna. Owing to its skillful artistic performance, this theater has established itself in recent years as one of our most successful amateur theater companies in the Austrian capital.

Inspired by the creations of Mika Antić and Đorđe Balašević, this cabaret shows the problems children face while growing up, regardless of their skin color.

Drama graduate Ena Pavlović directs the production, while Anja Rudić is behind the dance choreography. The cast consists of Vesna Špirić, Nikola Despotović, Kristina Đenđinović, Aleksandar Gavrić, Anja Rudić, Marija Živanović, Bojana Radoman, Veselin Rafailović and Đorđe Despotović.

It was the first time cabaret as a form appeared on the program of the Youth Theater, and it is the result of successful work of its members thus far in various fields of art.

‘In theory, this project could be called a “poor man’s theatre”, but by no means in substance or spirit.’ With a modest scenography and costume, and a minimal number of props, we still have something much more important: the actor, his heart and skill’, said director Ena Pavlović.

Vesna Špirić founded the Prosvjeta Young Artists Club back in 2016, at the time with the aim of giving young poetry authors the opportunity to present their work to a wider audience. In the meantime, in addition to poetry evenings, the Club started organizing plays, painting workshops and dance classes, and currently has more than 50 members.
