At LaGrange Highlands Elementary School in Chicago, the Serbian language dominates over the others, with the exception of the official English.
Serbian children, members of the church of St Nicholas folklore group Moravac, prepared an event to honor the celebration of the greatest Serbian saint.
The promotion of the culture and traditions of the Serbian people by Moravac folklore group delighted the audience.
– Now even Americans know who Saint Sava is, who the Serbs are and how beautiful their culture is – says Predrag Igić, president of the Moravac folklore group.
He adds that this is the first time, but certainly not the last, to celebrate the great Serbian holiday in this school:
– We hope, or rather, we will strive to make this a tradition, because our children dominate in this school in everything, ranging from knowledge and top grades to extracurricular activities. We teach our children to love their tradition, to not be ashamed of it and to proudly show it to others. The St Sava performance was organized owing to the great enthusiasm of our folklore teacher, Anđela Pucar, who had invested efforts, together with the parents, in our children to present the culture and tradition rightly. I hope this will be a motivation for our people to organize something similar in other parts of the city and in other schools with large numbers of Serbian children – Igić concludes.
