Assistant Minister for Cooperation with the Diaspora Helena Krnetić met with representatives of the diaspora at the Serbian Union of Sweden.
On this occasion, they discussed cooperation strengthening with the motherland, and future models of connecting and activities implementation. Strategic documents adopted by the Republic of Srpska Government in this area were also presented, with particular focus on the existing digital Diaspora Register.
Krnetić emphasized that institutions of the Republic of Srpska had undertaken activities to create a database of emigrants and their associations. The Diaspora Register consolidates data on natural and legal persons and associations in the diaspora. The data entered in this database is extremely important to us, because planning the institutions’ future activities relies on this information, says the assistant minister.
Representatives of the Serbian Union of Sweden informed the assistant minister about their activities, noting the religious education classes for children organized in the Saint Petka Church in Halmstad to nurture the identity of the Serbian people in the diaspora. Also, a folklore section was formed when organizing the Serbian Union of Sweden, and Serbian associations are making constant efforts for the generations growing up outside the motherland to preserve their cultural and national identity.
