On Sunday, 4 December, before the packed hall of the Akzent Theater in Vienna, the National Ensemble Kolo performed the dance show Sokolova pesma (Falcon’s Song) – a production newly added to the existing repertoire. The play presents the cultural creativity of Serbian dance and song in a completely new and modern way.

The Sokolova pesma play is based on Serbian folk art and folklore, and with the artists of the ensemble in all roles, it examines and treats rituals, customs, beliefs, epic and lyrical folk literature. In Sokolova pesma’s storyline the artists depicted some beliefs and part of the history lived by the Serbian people, with love conquering all adversities in the end.

‘Considering that this is a completely new production of the Kolo ensemble, the audience received such theatrical performance extremely well. Unfortunately, the hall was small, but this is a confirmation that the Kolo ensemble has a loyal audience in Vienna and in Austria, and that this is the motive for organizing a new concert and performance’, said the Association of Serbian Clubs in Vienna, the organizer of the concert.

The Austria-Switzerland Bishop Andrej also attended the concert, and day after the performance hosted a reception for the artists of the ensemble in the Cathedral of Saint Sava.

In his address, the bishop presented the history of the church, and expressed his delight with the national ensemble Kolo presenting Serbian dance, song and tradition in a completely new way.

In honor of the bishop, ensemble members performed the composition Tebe pojem (I Sing to Thee) by Stevan Stojanović Mokranjac in the Saint Sava Cathedral.
