The Tesla Science Foundation organized a multi-day conference in Philadelphia on the occasion of the 170th anniversary of Nikola Tesla’s birth and the 250th anniversary of US independence; on 12 July, a ceremonial academy was held bringing together scientists, professors, researchers, engineers and numerous admirers of Tesla’s character and work from the United States, Serbia, Montenegro, Republic of Srpska, and many European countries.
The gathering was given special significance by the presence of representatives of the Serbian diaspora from several countries of the world, who had the opportunity to remember, together with the scientific and diplomatic community, how deep a mark Tesla had left. The conference presented many scientific and professional papers dedicated to Tesla’s life, his scientific work and universal legacy, as well as his immeasurable contribution to the development of modern science, technology and civilization.
The ceremonial academy was officially opened by the Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in New York, Vladimir Božović, PhD. ‘In times of complex global challenges, Tesla’s philosophy speaks to us more powerfully than ever. We need people who build bridges, not walls, who unite rather than divide, who choose dialogue instead of conflict and who build a more peaceful, safe and prosperous future through knowledge, mutual respect and cooperation,’ said Božović.
On the last day of the event, on the feast of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul — Petrovdan, a divine liturgy was served in the Church of St. Nicholas in Philadelphia, after which all conference participants were offered lunch from Tesla’s land, with a rich cultural and artistic program to complete the days of socializing. The lunch was hosted by the founder of the Tesla Science Foundation, Nikola Lončar.
Due to the efforts of the Tesla Science Foundation as its organizer, the conference in Philadelphia was very successful and showed that Tesla’s name still unites the Serbian community around the world and opens the door to dialogue with the highest representatives of US institutions.
