Organized by the Union of Serbs of Romania and the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in Timisoara, the seventeenth Days of Serbian Culture started in Timisoara. The Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Bucharest, Stefan Tomašević, opened the event noting the importance of holding the Days of Serbian Culture as one of the most significant activities of Serbs in Romania, with a traditionally rich cultural and artistic program that brings together Serbs, Romanians and representatives of other communities, thus strengthening their connection and friendship.

The ambassador also noted the excellent cooperation of the Union of Serbs of Romania with the Embassy of Serbia in Bucharest and the Consulate General in Timisoara, citing the most important cultural events that were jointly organized this year, as well as those that would present Serbian culture by the end of the year in Bucharest.

As one of the most important projects, currently in the preparatory design phase, ambassador Tomašević marked the construction of a new modern school building in Timisoara with all accompanying facilities, including a boarding school to accommodate the relocated Dositej Obradović Theoretical Grammar School, which is being implemented in cooperation of the Embassy and Consulate General with the Serbian Orthodox Eparchy of Timisoara and great benefactor Dušan Vilms, recipient of this year’s Gold Medal for outstanding services in preserving the Serbian national minority and improving economic relations between the Republic of Serbia and Romania.

The film Once Upon a Time in Serbia directed by Petar Ristovski was shown to the audience and met with its excellent reactions. The screening of the film was preceded by addresses delivered by Timis County Prefect Mihai Ritivoiu, Deputy State Secretary for Inter-Ethnic Relations Dincer Geafer, advisor to the President of the Timis County Council Dan Diaconu, advisor to the Mayor of Timisoara Vasile Sarbu, vice-president of the Union of Serbs of Romania Dejan Popov, and deputy bishop of the Serbian Orthodox Eparchy of Timisoara, father Marinko Markov.

The Days of Serbian Culture in Timisoara will include organizing of 15 different cultural events by the end of November.
