Last weekend, two large events took place in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland, attracting a large number of visitors.

On Saturday, 13 May 2023, the event Days of Serbian Culture – Desanka’s Days was held in Lugano, organized by Desanka Maksimović Serbian cultural association from Lugano.

The Ticino Serbian supplementary school traditionally joins the Days of Serbian Culture and thus contributes to the preservation of the Serbian language, culture and tradition.

The event opened with the hymn Bože pravde, after which students of the Lugano supplementary classes in Serbian performed the song Tamo daleko.

To conclude, the song Jedna zemlja, jedan tim was performed.

The President of the Association, Marija Miladinović, thanked the teacher for the cooperation and assistance she provides to the Association, as well as for the effort, love and sacrifice she dedicates to the children.

Guests from the Radoje Domanović cultural center Rača, Veliko kolo association Novi Sad, and Sveti Sava association Bellinzona also visited the event, in addition to the organizer association.

On Sunday, 14 May 2023, the tenth jubilee St Basil assembly was held on the occasion of the votive slava of the Ticino Church Municipality – St Basil of Ostrog, organized by the Ticino Serbian Orthodox Church, Sveti Sava association and Nemanjići humanitarian organization.

The event was opened by priest Marko Knežević, who thanked all the present and reminded why we needed to gather rather than alienate when we were already far from our homeland.

The program was opened by students of the supplementary classes in the Serbian language.

At the beginning, the biography of St Basil of Ostrog was read, followed by recitations and poems.

The events were also attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Swiss Confederation, His Excellency Mr Goran Bradić, who thanked the organizers of both events, other Serbian associations and the teacher of supplementary classes in Serbian for their engagement and for the activities of preserving Serbian identity, language, culture, religion and tradition.
