On Monday night, the Cultural Center of Serbia in Paris hosted diaspora literary evening with Morana Ivković, author from Canada. Presentation of her works was followed by that of a new edition by Ranka Todorović and audio production of Fineks – Mondo Cult with editions by the publishing house of the same name. This meeting of publishers and the diaspora at the Cultural Center of Serbia in Paris is part of the Caravan of Culture, which began in June this year.
Poets, authors from Paris read excerpts from their books and the evening was musically shaped by Maja Petrović and professor Petar Gojković. Prof. Gojković also hosted the program on behalf of the organizer – the Union of Serbs of France. Thus continued the Caravan of Culture project, which, as Petar Gojković said, ‘continues its journey to Belgrade, where new meetings of diaspora authors are being organized.’
Morana Ivković grew up in Petrinja, Croatia, and moved to Canada in 1994 with her mother and younger sister. She has been writing since the age of 12, but she took a more serious interest in literature in 2015, when she published her first children’s book in the Maggie and Sara series, in English. After the publication of the first book, she often visited schools, homes for children and mothers, where she read her stories, spoke about the power of love, dreams and perseverance of the human spirit.
In 2020, she published her first novel for adults Otra Vez, PONOVO in the Samsara trilogy, in Serbian, followed by Vir, in March this year. The central theme of the Samsara trilogy is the notion of soulmates, different lives through which they meet, and an overview of the life and dilemmas we all share. ‘Morana loves traveling without maps, the color purple and mint tea. She is convinced that love is the strongest force in the world and that love is all we need. She lives at the foot of Canadian mountains with her husband and three children,’ said prof. Petar Gojković.
