The monastery in Žitomislić received students of the Prosvjeta Mostar school of Serbian language, history and culture, thus symbolically welcoming students and teaching new generations after a fifty-year break and closure of the school that had existed within the monastery.

– Since this is the last day of classes in the first semester for the students of this supplementary school, the Žitomislić Monastery Museum, together with the teaching staff of the Prosvjeta school, decided to move the classes from classrooms to an unusual environment, which the monastery complex undoubtedly provides – announced the Žitomislić Monastery Foundation.

About fifty students of all primary and high school years attended classes in three subjects, namely Serbian language, history and culture, in the premises of the monastery church, guest house and museum.

The teaching units were thematically adapted to the history of the Žitomislić Monastery of the Annunciation of the Mother of God, and to the significant cultural heritage associated with this Herzegovinian monastery.

– The breaks between the classes were used to enjoy the outdoors in the wonderful atmosphere of the monastery courtyard. Finally, the staff of the Žitomislić Museum together with the brotherhood of the monastery organized an appropriate workshop on the topic of the upcoming Christmas holidays – reads the statement.

The abbot of the monastery, Danilo, spoke to the students about Christmas and Christmas wishes.

– The elder of the Mostar Cathedral and director of the Prosvjeta school, Father Duško Kojić, promised the students at the end that this would become a lasting practice in the future, every year, on the last day of the semester, the classes would be moved briefly to Žitomislić – the statement adds.
