The event Save from Oblivion was held in Trieste on the occasion of a wonderful jubilee, marking of ten years of existence and operation of the Serbian cultural association Sveti Sava from Valdagno. This association, in addition to the cultural and sports activities it organizes throughout the year, also runs a Serbian supplementary school point. It is best known for its gusle section and events organized in honor of this traditional Serbian instrument. As in previous years, this jubilee event presented traditional Serbian instruments, gusle, bagpipes, frula, as well as songs, dances and folk costumes from all over Serbia.

The marking of the ten-year anniversary of the Association was attended by Ivana Stojiljković, RS Consul General in Trieste, Dušan Aleksić, president of the Union of Serbs in Italy, Boban Pejić, president of the Lebane Municipal Assembly, Srboljub Petrović, president of the Cultural and Artistic Society Kosovka Devojka, Milan Mihajlović, deputy president of the Obilić Municipal Assembly, representatives of the municipality of Valdagno, representatives of the city of Kragujevac, Nova Gorica from Slovenia, representatives of Serb associations from the Veneto region, and priest Aleksandar from Obilić.

After the rich cultural program, students of the Serbian supplementary school from the Vicenza region, who had won this year’s RTS cross-country run, handed over the Winner trophy-statue to Consul General Stojiljković for safekeeping at the Consulate General in Trieste until next year, when it will be presented to the new winner. Stojiljković thanked the teachers, children, and parents who invested a lot of effort and time to take their children to the Serbian supplementary school and folk dance sections, in addition to regular school, thus preserving the Serbian word, alphabet, tradition and culture outside the motherland of Serbia.

Representatives of the Sveti Sava association also handed out plaques and letters of appreciation to all participants and supporters of the event. Among the first they expressed great gratitude to were the Consulate General and the Directorate for Cooperation with the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region, whose support and presence give them strength and motivation to persevere in their work.

Representatives of the municipality of Obilić presented Consul General Stojiljković with a wooden carving of the municipality featuring the image of Miloš Obilić, and letters of appreciation from the president of Obilić municipality, Goran Dančetovič, and Kosovka Devojka Cultural and Artistic Society from Babin Most, for their selfless help in organizing the visit to the Republic of Italy.

The second day included a visit to the St Luke Serbian Orthodox Church in Vicenza and attendance at the Sunday liturgy, as well as group breakfast, after which the guests started leaving. The President of the Lebane Municipal Assembly invited all present to hold the next meeting in Serbia, on 7 November, on the occasion of the celebration of the Day of the Lebane Municipality, which is a sister city to the municipality of Valdagno.
