The parish of St Elijah the Prophet celebrated its church slava and at the same time marked its thirty years of existence in Coober Pedy, Australia. The ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Australia, Rade Stefanović, attended the holy liturgy at the invitation of the Bishop of Australia and New Zealand, Siluan. This beautiful jubilee was attended by many believers, who had come from all over Australia, including a South Australian Parliament member and South Australian Prime Minister’s envoy, Edward Hughes.
Addressing the audience, ambassador Stefanović expressed his satisfaction for being there and the fact that he was the first ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Australia to visit the small Serbian community and Serbian church in Coober Pedy, a unique cultural monument belonging not only to the Serbian people, but also to the Australian. He pointed out the importance of preserving and protecting it, as a permanent indicator of the presence of the Serbian people in Australia, announces the Serbian Embassy in Australia.
Anyway, St Elijah the Prophet Church is a unique Serbian church in the world, as it was built entirely underground, surrounded by desert, in the central part of Australia.
