The path of Saintsavaism must include awareness of Serbian culture that is a product of centuries of creation – from St. Sava until today, said academician Sreto Tanasić at St Sava celebration in Zvornik.

‘Central to our national identity is Serbian culture, which has kept us together throughout centuries, and central to Serbian culture is the Serbian language and Serbian Cyrillic alphabet’, said Tanasić at the celebration, which was a continuation of the St Sava Week spiritual and cultural event dedicated to the first Serbian archbishop, saint, enlightener and founder of the Serbian church and state, Saint Sava.

He noted that, when speaking about St Sava and Saintsavaism path, one must never forget nurturing the Serbian language and Cyrillic alphabet, which are the central sign of the Serbian national identity.

Tanasić said that St Sava had traced the path of Saintsavaism and his work, with some simplification, might be seen as boiling down to three plans or a trinity.

‘St Sava, together with his father Stefan Nemanja, strengthened the Serbian state and its borders; and later organized the Serbian Orthodox Church, brought it independence; and what we often talk about, namely that St Sava is the creator of Serbian education and Serbian culture in general’, Tanasić stated.

Performers at the St Sava celebration included the actress of the Republic of Srpska National Theater, Belinda Stijak, the choir of the Vojin Komadina Primary Music School in the musical part, and students of the Technical School Center reciting verses about St Sava.

All primary and secondary schools in Zvornik area will celebrate the school slava St Sava’s Day today.
