The Alliance of Serbs of Slovenia welcomes the initiative of the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to allow Serbs from Slovenia to obtain dual citizenship. ‘We are especially glad that official institutions of the home country have taken the stance that dual citizenship issue is of priority importance in relations between the two states,’ noted the Alliance of Serbs of Slovenia.
‘On this occasion, we recall that the Alliance of Serbs of Slovenia was the first to publicly raise the issue of recognition of dual citizenship. The President of the Alliance, Vladimir Kokanović, MA, was the first to acquaint the representatives of the National Assembly’s Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region with this initiative. The very fact that today there is public talk about the topics that the President of the Alliance presented to the members of the Serbian Parliament shows that the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region headed by Milomir Vujadinović represents the interests of Serbs from Slovenia as well as from the entire region and the diaspora,’ notes the statement from the Alliance.
The leadership of the Alliance point out that they are grateful to the representatives of the National Assembly who recognized the importance of their efforts and officially supported the initiative to introduce dual citizenship. ‘The support of the motherland means a lot to us because it proves that we are on the right path,’ said the Alliance of Serbs of Slovenia.
