About 600 Krajina Serbs from the USA and Canada gathered at the Krajišnici đe ćemo na prelo cultural and entertainment event in Chicago.

This cultural and entertainment event was organized by the Prelo Association of Krajina Serbs.

Svetozar Dančuo from the Prelo Association confirmed that a large number of Krajinians from America and Canada had gathered, thus sending a message of not forgetting their homeland.

– The prelo in Chicago included a very successful fundraising for construction of a church dedicated to Jasnovac new martyrs in Međuvođe in Potkozarje. Descendants of those perished in the Ustasha camps took significant participation – Dančuo added.

Serbian Consul General in Chicago, Damjan Jović, said that the connection between the diaspora and the motherland of Serbia was strengthening, as evidenced by the direct Chicago-Belgrade flight.

Bishop Longin of New Gračanica and Midwestern America said that the Prelo Association preserved the traditions, customs and culture of the Serbian people in Chicago.

Many artists took part in the rich cultural and entertainment program, including Oplenac and Svilen Konac folk dance groups.

There was also an exhibition with biographies of famous Kordun Serbs, authored by Svetozar Dančuo.

According to him, a special place in the exhibition is held by Sava Mrkalj, the reformer of the Serbian Cyrillic alphabet and language, a poet, monk and teacher.

– There are also Milan Vujaklija, the author of the famous dictionary of foreign words and phrases, Vladimir Matijević, the founder of the Privrednik society, which is responsible for the education of more than 40,000 poor Serbian children in the first half of the 20th century, the holy hieromartyr Branko of Veljun, the football player Goran Bunjevčević, and the opera singer Mirjana Dančuo – added Dančuo.
