The Minister without portfolio in the Government of the Republic of Serbia in charge of coordinating activities and measures in the area of relations with the diaspora, Đorđe Milićević, attended the diploma awarding ceremony for students who completed the eighth grade of Serbian supplementary schools in the Swiss Confederation.

Minister Milićević, who is currently also the Acting Minister of Education, kept the promise he had made to the Serbian diaspora during his previous visit to the canton of Zürich and donated 300 primers for children who will start the first grade of the Serbian supplementary school next school year, as well as reading books for upper grade students.

The more languages a person speaks, the more valuable and spiritually richer they are, but if they forget the mother tongue, they lose a part of themselves and the connection with their ancestors. Preserving and promoting national identity through the inheritance of the Serbian language, the Cyrillic alphabet, cultural heritage and history, are the priorities in the actions of our Office, Milićević said.

The Minister invited our diaspora youth to apply for participation in the thematic summer camps to be organized by his Office in cooperation with local self-governments during the months of July and August throughout Serbia.

These summer camps should bring our children from around the world closer to Serbia, let them see the beauty of the country, socialize with their peers and thus learn to love their motherland even more, said the Minister.
