More than 7,500 Serbs live in San Diego and gather at the Serbian Cultural Center, which is the guardian of Serbian culture and tradition in that part of the US.

Board President of the San Diego Serbian Cultural Center, Dijana Perić, said that the Serbian language was spoken in families, but that the Center wanted to raise language proficiency to a higher level. ‘By attending our school, children can obtain a certificate, just like other foreign languages are taught here, such as English, German, Spanish. There they can obtain a Serbian language proficiency level certificate, for example, B1, C1 and so on, or if they want to return here to study, they will have the opportunity because of their Serbian proficiency,’ Perić said.

The Center organizes many interesting activities, including a Serbian language school, a drama club and a Nikola Tesla club.

The Serbian Cultural Center is a non-profit organization, founded in June 2019, dedicated to preserving and promoting the Serbian language, culture, and traditions.

The Center’s main objective is to provide the San Diego community with access to Serbian language classes and cultural enrichment programs, and to develop cooperation with other cultural centers and organizations in order to enhance the development of cultural diversity. Additionally, there are various cultural events dedicated to literature, art, history, music, film, and theater. For those residing outside of San Diego, online classes are also available via Zoom.
