Five members of the US Congress have introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives proposing that February be designated as Serbian-American Heritage Month.
Resolution proponents note that Serbs in America have made significant contributions to the development of US society since the nineteenth century in the fields of science, medicine, technology, commerce, the military, public service, culture, the arts, and sports.
Particular emphasis is placed on the historic Serbia-USA alliance during the First and Second World Wars, Nikola Tesla’s contribution to the development of modern civilization, as well as Operation Halyard – the largest rescue operation of Allied airmen behind enemy lines in history.
The Resolution also notes that Serbian immigrants have established communities across America that continue to contribute to the growth and prosperity of the nation, and have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the principles of democracy, freedom, and civic engagement as loyal and patriotic citizens.
Serbian Embassy expressed its appreciation to the Members of Congress supporting this initiative.
