Last week, a ceremony was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Bern, whose warmth and dignity reminded all those present of the importance of words, language and belonging. On that occasion, the first and second grade students of the Serbian Supplementary School in Switzerland were ceremoniously presented with the National Reader – a gift from the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Serbia, as an incentive to continue to nurture and preserve the wealth of the Serbian word and culture, said the Serbian Supplementary School in Switzerland.
‘The ceremonial program began with the national anthem God of Justice, followed by a short student performance dedicated to the beauty of the Serbian language, tradition and values that connect generations. Each child’s letter and verse resonated like a part of a great treasury - gathering within themselves love for the homeland and respect for their roots,’ added the Serbian School in Switzerland.
The performance was followed by the ceremonial presentation of the Readers. ‘The smiles on the students’ faces were the most beautiful confirmation that a book, today as in the past, remains the key that opens the door to knowledge and belonging,’ said the teachers of the Serbian Supplementary School.
The attendees were greeted by the Consul of the Republic of Serbia, Nataša Božović, and then by the new coordinator of the Serbian Supplementary School for Switzerland and several countries, Biljana Dimitrijević. Consul Božović highlighted the importance of the Serbian language living and flourishing beyond the borders of the homeland, while class coordinator Biljana Dimitrijević thanked the Ministry of Education for its support and the students and teachers for their dedication and love for the Serbian word.
The ceremony ended with a joint photo – smiles shone as a symbol of pride and joy, testifying that the Serbian word, wherever it is spoken, remains a bridge that connects hearts, time and space.
The first Teachers’ Council was also held that day with the new coordinator Biljana Dimitrijević.
