The largest Serbian diaspora folklore festival in Europe was held in Italy, gathering around 5,000 visitors and 1,300 performers from 22 associations over two days, said the president of the Serbian Diaspora Union, Đorđe Milanović.
Milanović thanked the president of the Republic of Srpska Milorad Dodik, who supported the Brojanica festival with BAM 10,000.
– The festival, held in the Italian region of Trentino-Alto Adige, was attended by a Srpska delegation that conveyed greetings from President Dodik – said Milanović.
He also thanked all the citizens who had arrived from the Republic of Srpska, who made up 70 percent of the total number of festival visitors.
Milanović also thanked the members of the Union from Štivor near Prnjavor of Italian nationality, who, according to him, support selflessly Brojanica and the activities on holding this festival.
The Brojanica festival, which has been held for more than five years, celebrates Serbian culture and tradition in order to strengthen ties among diaspora folklore associations and with the homeland.
During the two festival evenings, the audience had the opportunity to see more than 35 different performances by diaspora youth, and traditional folklore dances from Serbia, Montenegro, Republic of Srpska and Krajina.
The festival presented costumes and music from these regions, as well as cuisine, and also hosted other cultural events.
The festival is non-competitive in nature.
The patrons of the festival are the Italian region of Trentino-Alto Adige and the President of the Republic of Srpska, Milorad Dodik.
The organizers of this year’s Brojanica are Serbian Diaspora Union and Vidovdan Serbian Cultural and Artistic Society.
