The Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Australia, Rade Stefanović, attended the opening of the landmark 35th annual Serbian Folkloric Festival in Sydney, at the Bonnyrigg Serbian Centre.

The event, the largest of its kind in Australia, presented folklore and cultural and artistic societies from all over the country.

Ambassador Stefanović expressed his satisfaction with the fact that for the second year in a row he was attending the opening of this traditional festival, held for the 35th time this year.

In particular, he noted the importance of preserving the Serbian culture, language and Cyrillic script, as the basis of the national identity of Serbs, and indicated the process of forming supplementary Serbian language schools with classes held according to the program of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Serbia, and once again invited all interested parents and students to cooperate in this area with the Serbian Embassy in Canberra.

Festival opening was attended by two federal MPs Anne Stanley, head of the ALP parliamentary group, and Dai Le, an independent MP, several New South Wales Parliament MPs including an envoy of the NSW Premier Chris Minns, the mayor of the Sydney municipality of Fairfield F. Carbone, several councilors from local municipalities, and representatives of the Metropolitanate of Australia and New Zealand.
