The city of Trebinje is the first local community from the Republic of Srpska to be an official partner in the organization of the St. Sava Ball in Vienna. The St. Sava Ball, which traditionally brings together the Serbian community, as well as many figures from the Austrian political and business life, will be held on Friday, 6 February, at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna.
For Trebinje, this is an opportunity to strengthen ties with the Serbian diaspora, but also to present the local community as a place pleasant for living and suitable for investment. – I believe that we are ready and that we have prepared what was realistically feasible. This is a great honor for Trebinje and I hope that we will use the opportunity to present well our potential and that we will have time to distribute leaflets and presents for those who attend – said the Mayor of Trebinje Mirko Ćurić.
Trebinje Tourism Organization, Herzegovina Museum, and Herzeg House will be presented in Vienna. All the best from southern Srpska will be presented. – At our stand, we will present our cultural and historical tourism potential, but also outdoor and cyclotourism, which is one of the fastest growing branches of tourism in the world. We are going at full capacity – said Jovica Milošević from the Tourism Organization of Trebinje.
Veselin Dutina, Director of the Trebinje Agrarian Fund, says that their goal is to promote Herzegovinian products. – In December last year, we opened our first store in cooperation with the Austrian-Serbian Chamber of Commerce and the Republic of Srpska Representative Office in Vienna. Thus, we also promote Herzeg House, Herzegovinian products and producers – added Dutina.
The Hofburg Palace will see a combination of tradition and modernity. Members of cultural and artistic societies from Trebinje will perform a medley of Serbian 19th century dance variants. They believe that they will present their city and the Republic of Srpska in the best light. – Over the weekend, we had a joint dress rehearsal. We are excited because in a few days we are traveling to Vienna. There we will present King’s kolo, Queen Draga’s kolo, Srpkinjica and the inevitable Serbian quadrille – says Tamara Šišić, member of the Alat Cultural and Artistic Society. Vienna is the only city in the world that has kept its ball season, which runs from November to February. After a 100-year break, in January 1998 the Serbian Ball was held again in Vienna, and since then it has been called the St. Sava Ball. It still bears that name today, and it was named after the first Serbian archbishop and educator – Saint Sava.
