Serbian Days were opened in Budapest at the beginning of October, officially marking the beginning of the Month of Serbian Culture, where the wealth of Serbian culture, spirituality, tradition and contemporary creativity will be presented. The Republic of Srpska, Serbia, and naturally Serbian community in Hungary participated in the organization of this important event. The ceremonial opening took place in the endowment of the famous benefactor Sava Tekelija, the cultural, religious and educational centre of the Serbs in Hungary.
This event aims to restore Serbian culture in Hungary to its rightful place, said, among other things, the Bishop of Buda, Mr. Lukijan.
During the ceremonial opening of Serbian Days, the President of the Republic of Srpska, Milorad Dodik, who is its patron, said that it was a special honour to have this role in the implementation of such an initiative of the Eparchy of Buda, and said that a people with a strong identity could count on the future.
Minister Đorđe Milićević addressed those present on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, and conveyed the support of the Serbian Government to our people in Hungary and said that only united we could save the Serbian people and our motherland Serbia.
The cultural and artistic program included performances by Mihail Stevanović, guslar from the Sandić School of Gusle Bijeljina, and cultural and artistic society Taban’s female vocal group from Budapest.
The Octet of the St Sava School of Theology Belgrade also performed.
Vjera Mujović, the leading drama artist of the Belgrade National Theatre, appeared on stage in the role of Princess Ljubica.
The program in the ceremonial hall ended with the performance of the Vigad orchestra from Saint Andrea, and later in the evening, a photo-documentary exhibition about Mina Karadžić by professor Svetlana Matić from Vienna and designer Dušan Borisavljević was opened in the Krug gallery.
