The 22nd economic and tourism event Days of Drvar Cornelian Cherry was held in Drvar, and numerous guests included representatives of the Austrian Pielachtal region, renowned for the cultivation and production of this medicinal fruit.

The creator of the event, Zoran Pećanac, says that, during the holding of this event, numerous guests from the Republic of Srpska and the region had the opportunity to become acquainted with a wide range of healthy domestic products made from Cornelian cherry, which has been the main symbol of the municipality of Drvar for decades.

The guests in Drvar included Mr. Kurt Wittmann, mayor of Rabenstein, Ms. Cornelia Janker, director of Pielachtal Tourism Organization and Rabenstein Tourism Community, and several businessmen and tourism professionals from this Austrian region.

Drvar hosts presented to the guests Cornelian cherry brandy, whipped jam, imber – Cornelian cherry juice and fruit preserve, and according to Pećanac, they are particularly proud of the branded product – whipped jam.

‘The certificate issued to the people of Drvar is recognized also in the European Union, which means that the jam may only be made in Drvar and nowhere else under that name. The branding project was also supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Srpska’, said Pećanac.

On this occasion, it was agreed that the organizers of the Days of Drvar Cornelian Cherry would visit the Pielachtal region in the coming period in order to improve cooperation and apply examples of good practice in developing and promoting the production of organic Cornelian Cherry products.

In addition to promoting organic production and developing tourism in the Drvar region, the Days of Drvar Cornelian Cherry are also a symbol of sustainable return of the people of Drvar. About 50 families in Drvar today are engaged in the production of Cornelian cherry products, and every year more and more guests come to the popular Drenjijada.
