This summer, children of Serbian origin from across Europe will have the opportunity to learn and improve their native Serbian language and Cyrillic alphabet in a summer camp in Tršić near Loznica, in the birthplace of the creator of the Serbian alphabet, Vuk Karadžić.
Yesterday, the Minister without portfolio in charge of coordinating activities and measures in the field of relations between the Republic of Serbia and the diaspora, Đorđe Milićević, informed Loznica municipality leadership about this project of organizing themed summer camps for children from the diaspora.
The Mayor of Loznica, Vidoje Petrović, and his associates received the idea with pleasure and announced their application to organize a summer camp in Tršić, where children from the Serbian diaspora will be able to learn more about their national and cultural identity, stated Milićević’s office.
The overall project of organizing summer camps for diaspora youth is financed by the Serbian Government through Milićević’s office, and at least 40 local self-governments from all over Serbia are expected to participate.
The goal is to have at least 10,000 children from the diaspora and the region stay in the camps during this summer.
Milićević also announced a competition intended for associations and non-governmental organizations, to provide financial support for equipping cultural and artistic societies, sports clubs, libraries and supplementary schools throughout the Serbian diaspora.
