Serbia, Republic of Srpska, Serbian Orthodox Church and family are the main guardians of Serbian identity, noted a public discussion held in Belgrade which presented a collection of papers from a scientific gathering on this issue.

The discussion was organized by Prosvjeta Belgrade, with the support of the Representative Office of Srpska in Serbia.

There is not a single segment of Serbian social and spiritual life, which is not the target of attacks aimed at changing the consciousness of Serbs, says the president of Prosvjeta, Milimir Mučibabić. He points out that the task of Serbia and Srpska is to speak about cultural identity from a Serbian point of view, without endangering anyone.

– In 1999, when the savage NATO bombing ended – it objectively did not stop. Now it is bombing aimed at cultural identity, using all weapons – said Mučibabić.

The Serbian language and script are in the foundations of Serbian identity, and they are also endangered, warns Sreto Tanasić. While the Law on Language and Script has been lying in a drawer for years, there was a hasty adoption of the Law on Gender Equality, which, he says, is a cover for the destruction of the Serbian language and its structure.

– It is a matter of legalizing violence against language, language engineering in the name of ideology, blaming language and its people for discrimination, attempting to destroy the language system, abolishing concepts in language thinking, attacking language, culture and view of the world and family – Tanasić added.

The main guardians of national identity are the state, the church and the family, and these are, it was pointed out, the structures that are targeted the most.

– The state should maintain what makes the main elements of the Serbian national identity through the educational system, through culture, through cultural policy – stated Slobodan Antonić, professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade.

We should not tolerate the attacks on the Serbian identity, and it is our obligation to fight for those values on the spiritual level, participants in the discussion said.
