Prosvjeta Serbian Educational and Cultural Society Germany marked a significant moment in its history – for the first time, one of its boards participated in an international scientific meeting at the Tesla Scientific Conference in Philadelphia, organized on the occasion of the 170th anniversary of Nikola Tesla’s birth, where Letter to Mother, the school film by young authors from Srbac was not only shown to the American audience, but also ultimately won an official award.
In the United States, the work was shown to high-ranking officials – Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the US Dragan Šutanovac, Serbian Consul General in New York Vladimir Božović, and Executive Director of the Tesla Science Foundation for America Ashley Redfern Nesvik. The attention of the audience was particularly attracted by the young actor Filip Lazić, whose physical resemblance and stage convincingness in the role of Nikola Tesla did not go unnoticed.
The emotions evoked by the film translated also into a concrete recognition: the authors of Letter to Mother received an official award from the Tesla Science Foundation for creativity and contribution to the preservation of Tesla’s legacy. At the same time, Prosvjeta SECS Germany was awarded a special recognition for the outstanding presentation of the character and work of Nikola Tesla, as well as for the promotion of the culture and identity of the Serbian people on the international stage.
The President of German board, Bogdana Brezovac, said that the success was due to the support of the entire Prosvjeta network – primarily the Main Board of Prosvjeta SECS Banja Luka and Prosvjeta SECS Austria, who had recognized the importance of the project and provided it with full institutional support. ‘Prosvjeta was created to raise public awareness, preserve culture and give wings to young people. Today, in the diaspora, we live that mission in a new way – connecting Serbs around the world, building bridges and creating a space to preserve our identity with love and pride,’ Brezovac said in her address at the Conference.
The young authors’ trip to America was also supported by the institutions of the Republic of Srpska and the municipality of Srbac. On behalf of the children and their parents, Prosvjeta extended special thanks to the President of the Republic of Srpska, the Ministry of Tourism and Trade of the Republic of Srpska, the head of the municipality of Srbac, and Milenijum NGO from Srbac for the very successful cooperation.
