Minister without portfolio in the Government of the Republic of Serbia in charge of the field of relations with the diaspora, Đorđe Milićević, presented yesterday the Government’s activities and plans regarding permanent and occasional return of our compatriots who live outside Serbia’s borders.

At the Circular Migration before Depopulation conference, organized by the European Policy Centre and Foundation for Economic Science Development, under the auspices of the EU Office in Serbia, Milićević said that the Government recognized the need for a systemic approach in order to promote the return of young people from the diaspora.

He recalled that a number of measures had been implemented to create a favorable environment that would encourage young talents to return and contribute to the development of the country.

We understand the challenges faced by the people who are considering return and we intend to support them through various programs, by facilitating the process of reintegration into the homeland, the minister said.

According to him, due to the activities and results both on the internal and foreign policy level, the diaspora today believes in their state.

The diaspora knows what kind of support we are providing them, but also what stability and security they can expect upon return to their country. Naturally, there are still some open issues, and in the coming year we want to continue the open dialogue, to hear the needs and ideas of compatriots living outside our borders and to work together on projects that will improve our entire community, he said.

Milićević stressed that the goal was to create a unique base of the diaspora in the coming period, and a platform where our compatriots, wherever they live, would be able to network, exchange experiences and achieve cooperation, but also exercise their rights in the motherland.
