The sixth consecutive On Ancestral Paths exhibition was opened in the Archives of Vojvodina in Novi Sad, organized by the Srpski krajevi (Serbian regions) association and supported by the Republic of Srpska Representative Office in Serbia.
The exhibition, which will remain open to Novi Sad audience until 28 April, consists of 21 works of art created at the traditional On Ancestral Paths art colony in the Macut gallery last December.
At the opening of the exhibition, prizes were presented to the most successful, the first-prized sculptor Boško Ivić for the Hajduk Veljko bust, to Snežana Mandić for the Kumanica Monastery painting and to Vladan Nikolić for the Vuk Karadžić painting.
The President of the Srpski krajevi Association, Slaviša Rujević, said that the art colony and the resulting exhibition had originated from the desire to leave a particular legacy for future generations through works of art.
‘It is important that we have become recognizable and authentic, because we depict the paths of our ancestors, as indicated by the name of the art colony, and I think that we are unique and that our exclusive theme is Serbian cultural heritage’, said Rujević.
Rujević stated that the plan was to stage the exhibition in the Temerin Cultural Center in the near future, and that discussions were underway to stage a part of the exhibition in Gračanica in Kosovo and Metohija. The On Ancestral Paths exhibition was supported by the Archives of Vojvodina, the Novi Sad City Administration for Culture, the Provincial Secretariat for Culture, Public Information and Relations with Religious Communities, the AP Vojvodina Fund for Supporting Refugees, Exiled and Displaced Persons, and the Republic of Srpska Representation in Serbia.
