The traditional, ninth Republic of Srpska Evening event was held on 22 April, organized by the Republika Srpska Homeland Community from Subotica.

The ceremony was attended by Stevan Bakić, the Mayor of Subotica, Borislav Maksimović, advisor for cooperation development and improvement in education, culture, arts and sports, Aleksandar Đedovac, the Director of the Provincial Fund for Refugees, Displaced Persons and Cooperation with Serbs in the Region, general Milan Čeleketić, and Miroslav Karan, the President of the Alliance of North Bačka District Serb Associations.

Bakić said that the Republika Srpska Homeland Community was one of the homeland associations in this city, whose leadership and members strived to nurture and preserve the customs, traditions and culture of their native region through numerous activities, to maintain and strengthen ties with the region they hailed from, but also to contribute as much as possible to the development and promotion of Subotica.

‘The city of Subotica has exceptional cooperation with the Republika Srpska Homeland Community and provides support to it, as well as to all other associations in our city that strive to save the memory of their homeland from oblivion’, said Bakić.

‘Your dedication and effort are very valuable to us, and I want to emphasize that we will always stand with you and provide support in all projects aimed at preserving our tradition and culture’, said Maksimović and noted that the work and contribution of the Homeland Community was of particular importance in the development of the city of Subotica and in building best possible ties between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Srpska.

‘I wish to thank especially this beautiful city and its residents, who have always welcomed us warmly and supported our work to preserve the memory and culture of our homeland’, Maksimović stated.

The cultural and artistic part of the program included performances by Sinovi Manjače and vocal soloist Mirjana Janus, Srce Knešpolja cultural and artistic society, Žubor Vrbanje, and Dejan Anđelović, a member of the Subotica ethno group Iskon.
