The State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nemanja Starović, co-chaired today a session of the Intergovernmental Mixed Commission for National Minorities with North Macedonia.

Held for the first time after 17 years, the session was dedicated to discussing the position of the Serb community in North Macedonia and the Macedonian national minority in Serbia, and ways for their improvement.

The Secretary of State assessed that today’s meeting was historic, saying that the authorities of the two states were sincerely committed to enabling the national communities to function adequately outside their home countries.

Representatives of the Serb community in North Macedonia and the Macedonian national minority in Serbia introduced the members of the two delegations to the models of their organization, the challenges they face, and ways to overcome them.

Representative of the Macedonian minority commended the cooperation with all levels of government in Serbia, saying that it often exceeded the positive legal regulations and resulting obligations of Serbia towards Macedonians living in Serbia.
