Organized by Srpska’s Representative Office in Serbia and the Association of Writers of Serbia, the event Kočić’s Day in Belgrade brought together writers from the Republic of Srpska and Serbia who paid tribute to Petar Kočić at his grave at the New Cemetery and at the monument to the literary great in Čuburski Park.

Writers Duško M. Petrović, Vidak Maslovarić, Radmilo V. Radovanović, Majo Danilović, Mihailo Orlović and Danijel Gatarić, and associate for culture at the Republic of Srpska Representation in Serbia, Borislav Maksimović, laid wreaths and flowers on Kočić’s grave.

Duško M. Petrović addressed the gathering on behalf of the Serbian Writers’ Association and recalled that the famous author had graduated from a gymnasium in Belgrade, where he had lived for a while after getting married, and that he had left Belgrade for Vienna.

Speaking about today’s gathering in the Serbian capital in honor of the great author, Petrović pointed out that it was part of the large manifestation Kočić’s Assembly, held every year in the last week of August in Stričići, Banja Luka, Gomionica, and in Belgrade, where writers from Kočić’s homeland came and preserved the memory of the great author.

On behalf of the Writers’ Association of the Republic of Srpska, Mihajlo Orlović spoke about Kočić, his role and importance, and explained his perception of the famous author as a powerful metaphor.

‘I perceive Kočić as a big mountain, which woke up in one moment with all its might and which still resonates today as strongly as it did more than a hundred years ago. That echo regenerated not only his Zmijanje, but also Krajina and the entire Serbian race. Petar is something great and something with a lot of meaning for the Serbian people’, said Orlović.

The writers then went to Čuburski Park, where after laying wreaths and flowers on Kočić’s monument, they recited verses in praise of the great author.

The event Kočić’s Day in Belgrade ended last night at the Writers’ Association of Serbia, with holding of a literary evening titled Zmijanje in Belgrade, Srpska in Serbia, which included participation of Mihailo Orlović, Radmilo V. Radovanović and Danijel Gatarić from Banja Luka, and Laura Barna, Dušica Milanović, Grozdana Lučić Lalić, Bratislav R. Milanović, Duško M. Petrović, Majo Danilović, Milko Grbović and Vidak Maslovarić from Belgrade.
