The Minister without portfolio in the Government of the Republic of Serbia in charge of coordinating activities and measures in the field of relations with the diaspora, Đorđe Milićević, presented his office’s programs aimed to support learning of the Serbian language in the diaspora.
At the press conference held on the occasion of the International Mother Language Day, Milićević said that program activities were related primarily to supporting organizations, societies and associations of Serbs abroad in preserving Serbian identity, culture, language and history.
He expressed his special gratitude to Vulkan publishing house, which would support the implementation of a program of donating primers to every first-year student in the diaspora, primarily to those in Serbian language supplementary school classes, and then to all our children around the world.
Also, he announced, owing to the strategic support of Vulkan publishing house, the office of the minister without portfolio would organize a donation of reading materials to upper grades of elementary schools, and renovation of Serbian diaspora libraries, of which there are more than 500 in the world.
According to him, as part of the cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Institute for the Improvement of Education, the plan is to implement a program of online Serbian language classes for students from the diaspora, which will make the materials for learning our language available to all our children around the world.
The State Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Zoran Kasalović, said that the Education Development Strategy until 2030 had set as a special goal the improvement of attitudes towards the Serbian language and literature and basic elements of national and cultural identity, and the improvement of education in Serbian in the diaspora.
It is important that together we continue to provide the necessary support to students in the diaspora and to contribute to the preservation of our language and traditions, said the state secretary.
The measures, activities and programs of the minister’s office are a continuation of the policy of the President of the Republic and the Government of Serbia in the process of strengthening the ties of the motherland with our people around the world and providing support to those living outside of Serbia for nurturing their mother tongue, culture and learning about history.
