Academician Matija Bećković was presented a Charter for exceptional assistance and support in promoting the Serbian educational and cultural society Prosvjeta in Kozarska Dubica.

Bećković said that Prosvjeta membership had included all the most notable people of Serbian education and culture, and that Kozarska Dubica was the hometown of the archpriest Slavko Vujasinović, the first secretary of Prosvjeta in 1902.

Bećković pointed out that that Society had built the first church at that time and that the purpose of its founding had never been forgotten through all these times.

on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the founding of Prosvjeta, emphasized that it was an honor for him to present recognition to one of the greatest contemporary Serbian poets and thinkers, to a human greatness that shaped, enriched and ennobled the Serbian language and cultural heritage in the best possible way.

In his oration, Sinkić recalled some moments from the long history of that Society and pointed out that, together with the Serbian Orthodox Church, Prosvjeta had been and still was the guardian of the spiritual and national identity of the Serbian people.

Prosvjeta’s jubilee in Kozarska Dubica was marked last weekend by a three-day cultural program with participation of numerous artists, writers and guests.

A ceremonial academy was held in the Cultural Centre in Kozarska Dubica and the amphitheater of Knežpoljska kuća in Knežica, and on the last day of the program Prosvjeta promoted its editions, the book Dubičko područje u 19. vijeku (Dubica area in the 19th century) by Mile Zeljić and the works Najgori dan za umiranje (The worst day to die) by Rajko Lukač.

In honor of the great jubilee, the ceremonial academy included a performance by Zrenjanin soloist Milica Dosković, and verse reciting by Doboj poet Rada Janjušić.

A charter was awarded posthumously to Professor Mile Zeljić, the long-time president of Prosvjeta Kozarska Dubica, for his exceptional contribution and endeavors in the founding, operation and development of the Society.

A charter for friendly and donor support was awarded to Tomislav Čolić, president of the Serb Union in Sweden, and to Pantelija Dudić.

Sima Brdar, Mirko Zlojutro, Mira Stojaković, Rajko Lukač and Milica Dosković received certificates of appreciation at the ceremonial academy.

Members of the Serbian Singing Society Višnjić and Drama Studio Artist, nurturing and keeping the heritage of Prosvjeta’s best traditions in their work under the auspices of this Society, showed part of their creativity and work in words and songs on the stage of the Cultural Center.

Numerous officials, guests and citizens attended the events organized on the occasion of marking the 120th anniversary of Prosvjeta in Kozarska Dubica.

The sponsors of the event were the Ministry of Labor, War Veterans’ and Disabled Persons’ Protection of the Republic of Srpska, the Municipality of Kozarska Dubica, Public Health Institution Special Hospital Mlječanica, and Information and Culture Center Kozarska Dubica.
