His Holiness Porfirije, the Serbian Patriarch, spoke with the director of the Directorate for Cooperation with the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region, Arnaud Gouillon, about projects that promote cooperation and ties between Serbs in the world, the region and the motherland.
At the meeting held yesterday in the Patriarchate in Belgrade, the Patriarch expressed satisfaction that the Serbian Orthodox Church played a key role in that process, announced SOC today.
The Serbian Patriarch emphasized the importance of worship, religion and Serbian language classes, folklore manifestations, and spiritual and scientific lectures in Serbian Orthodox churches around the world.
Gouillon noted that, by implementing many concrete projects, the state of Serbia testified that it cared very much about the connection between Serbs in the region, the world and the motherland, and that it enjoyed SOC support in that regard.
During the day yesterday, His Holiness also received the Ambassador of Bulgaria to Serbia, Petko Dojkov, and Ilija Koberidze, Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of Georgia in Greece with a mission in Belgrade.
In their discussion, the Serbian Patriarch and the Bulgarian Ambassador emphasized the importance of all-encompassing work on establishing good relations between the two peoples on all issues and at all levels, while Dojkov conveyed to Patriarch Porfirije the fraternal greetings of the Bulgarian Patriarch Neophyte.
At a separate meeting with the Georgian diplomat, Patriarch Porfirije emphasized the importance of good relations between the peoples of Serbia and Georgia, which are close both in religion and in the culture that is Christian in foundation.
Koberidze emphasized that in Serbia he felt like in his country with his people, and that for that reason he was investing a great effort in the development of tourism and pilgrimage between Serbia and Georgia.
