The Minister without portfolio in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, responsible for monitoring the situation, proposing measures and participating in the coordination of activities in the field of Serbia’s relations with the diaspora, Đorđe Milićević, visited the Saints Cyril and Methodius Elementary School in Kučevište, Republic of North Macedonia, yesterday, on the occasion of the celebration of the school Slava – Saint Sava.

Milićević recalled that teaching at that school unfolded in the Serbian language, saying that this was an important pillar of preserving the language, culture and identity. Saint Sava taught us that knowledge was the path to freedom and that school was the foundation of a nation. This day is more than a holiday because the identity of a nation is preserved through books, language and faith, he said.

The Minister stated that this school was not only an educational institution, but a bridge between the past and the future, a place where children learnt not only letters, but also the meaning of dignity, tolerance and unity. Serbia stands by its schools, teachers, students and parents wherever they are, noted Milićević, adding that knowledge was power.

I wish you a happy school Slava and may Kučevište in North Macedonia remain a place where the Serbian word is learned, preserved and proudly passed on, he said.

The ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia and Minister of Inter-Community Relations Ivan Stoilković, the school principal Verče Slavković, parents and students.
