The Minister without portfolio in the Government of the Republic of Serbia responsible for monitoring the situation, proposing measures and participating in the coordination of activities in the field of relations with the diaspora, Đorđe Milićević, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Sports Association of Serbia, establishing long-term cooperation to connect youth from the diaspora and the region with their motherland.

Milićević said that special emphasis was placed on programs traditionally organized by the Minister’s office in the form of thematic summer camps for young people from the diaspora and the region, adding that sports activities in the camps were recognized as an important part of connecting with Serbia, so cooperation with the Sports Association of Serbia would contribute to a more meaningful program.

According to him, the signing of the Memorandum with the Serbian Sports Association demonstrates the state’s determination to continue investing in youth and sports, and to strengthen and preserve ties with the Serbian people beyond the borders of the motherland.

The President of the Sports Association of Serbia, Davor Štefanek, said that sport was one of the most important pillars of our national identity and the best way to convey a sense of belonging to Serbia to the younger generations. He noted that joint sports programs and camps offered children and youth from the diaspora the opportunity to learn about their country, make lifelong friends and feel that Serbia is their home.
