The city of Trebinje’s Herzegovina House won the election for the world’s best story about sustainable tourism.

The competition was part of the Berlin International Tourism Fair. A Peruvian and Canadian story took the second and the third place respectively.

Another recognition for Trebinje, of global level, in the field of tourism. Trebinje’s headman says that this is a great success of the city, the Tourism Organization of Trebinje and the Republic of Srpska. He also notes that this recognition is a further boost for all those who participated in this project.

– I would like to take this opportunity to thank my deputy who participated directly in applying, the Herzegovina House, the tourism organization, local economic development people who also contributed to applying in this project, so the message is, in fact, that as a team we can conquer – I can freely say in the field of tourism – the world – said Mirko Ćurić, the mayor of Trebinje.

An expert associate in the city’s Tourism Organization, Žarko Vico, told reporters that Trebinje had achieved a great success, taking into account that sustainable tourism was also the global tourism’s perspective.

– I was lucky to participate in the Berlin tourism fair seven or eight years ago, and I saw the actual importance of that fair. It is global tourism’s crème de la crème held in the world, so this award should be a pleasure for all of us and a wind at the back for future work – added Vico.

The mayor of Trebinje reminds that, in drafting the Trebinje development strategy three years ago, it was said that the desire and goal was for Trebinje to be the most desirable small town in the Western Balkans by 2030.

– We are taking the right steps and we are showing that Trebinje will certainly achieve that, if it has not already – Ćurić pointed out.

What Trebinje certainly is already is recognized as a tourist destination worth visiting on the tourist maps of Europe and the world.

And the number of tourists visiting the city in the south of the Republic of Srpska proves that it is interesting for tourists.
