The feature-length documentary Tesla Nation directed by Željko Mirković will premiere on the US public broadcasting service PBS, on Cleveland’s WVIZ World channel, on 16 February at 7 pm, to honor the Serbian Statehood Day, the producers announced.
The narrator of the work and playing the role of Nikola Tesla in the feature segment is our actor who has lived in the USA for two decades – Željko Dimić or Jack Dimich, and the screenwriters are Miloš Rastović, Marko Lopušina, and director and producer – Željko Mirković.
The film will have its TV premiere on WVIZ – Virtual Channel 25, a Public Broadcasting Service – PBS member television station from Cleveland, Ohio.
The documentary Tesla Nation has so far been included in the prestigious archives of the United States and the world.
The notable film project has won many awards around the world and qualified for Oscar nomination.
The film represents an unusual journey through the past and present of the nation, from the first Serb disembarking on American soil more than 200 years ago until the present day.
Through the stories of prominent Serbs, besides Nikola Tesla and Mihajlo Pupin, the film introduces the audience to the three-time recipient of the Pulitzer Prize, Walt Bogdanich, the only female member of the New York Academy of Sciences, Gordana Vunjak Novaković, Serbian engineers – creators of the Apollo program, Oscar winners from our region – Karl Malden, Steve Tesich, Peter Bogdanovich, and many whose names have been recorded by history.
The film offers a story of the first Serb in America, George Fisher (Đorđe Šagić), who had been rescued by fishermen after whom he was named, and whose name features in Livingston’s book ‘100 Famous Americans.’
The script also narrates many curiosities, such as that the famous GI Joe toy was made after the model of a Serbian hero, Mihajlo Pejić.
Tesla Nation was made as both a documentary series and a feature cinema film, produced by Optimistic Film and RTS, at the initiative of the Tesla Science Foundation from Philadelphia.
The project was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia, the US Embassy in Belgrade, Council for Creative Industries of the Prime Minister Ana Brnabić, and Serb National Alliance (SNF) from Pittsburgh.
Executive producers are Nikola Lončar, Đorđe Jovičić, Mikan Velinović, Borislav Jovičin.
