The Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and National Flag was celebrated in the Serbian community in the US. In honor of the Serbian Unity, Freedom and National Flag Day, a festive banquet was held in the hall of the St. John the Baptist Church in the Bellwood neighborhood of Chicago, where guests were greeted by the Consuls General of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bishop Serafim of Kostajnica, clergy and other guests.
The Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in the Kingdom of Denmark and the Serbian Folklore Ensemble Opanak organized a festive celebration of the Serbian Unity, Freedom and National Flag Day. The program began with the anthem of the Republic of Serbia. A children’s ensemble performed Dances from Srem. A mixed ensemble presented dances from Leskovac and dances from Crna Trava.
The Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and National Flag of the Republic of Serbia and Republic of Srpska was solemnly celebrated at the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Berlin, with the presence of students of supplementary classes in the Serbian language and their parents. The gathering was welcomed in its opening address by the Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Federal Republic of Germany, Dr. Snežana Janković, who highlighted the importance of preserving national identity, language and culture among young people in the diaspora. The Serbian-German community’s singing group Mladost also delighted the audience with their performance of traditional songs.
‘The goals of the workshop on the occasion of the celebration of the Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and National Flag in the groups in Schaffhausen and Uster were to develop awareness among students about the importance of state and national holidays, to familiarize them with the symbolism and history of the Serbian flag, to strengthen the sense of unity, respect and belonging to the Serbian people, and to develop creativity and team spirit,’ said teacher Slađana Bužek, after holding classes in these teaching places in Switzerland. At the beginning of the class, teacher Bužek explained to the students the importance of celebrating the Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and National Flag, as well as the historical circumstances that had led to the establishment of this holiday. On that occasion, the students shared their knowledge on the topic of the Serbian flag and state symbols. Aided by pictures and a short film, students of the Serbian Supplementary School learned about the history of the Serbian flag, its colors and meaning. This was followed by a creative workshop.
