The Union of Serbs of Romania organized a Vidovdan Academy in Timișoara to celebrate one of the most important holidays of the Serbian people.

The speeches stated that Vidovdan was a symbol of historical memory, spiritual unity and responsibility for the preservation of national identity. The role of the Serbian community in Romania in nurturing language, culture, education and Orthodox tradition was particularly emphasized.

The central part of the academy was the awarding of Vidovdan charters and letters of appreciation to individuals and institutions whose work had made a special contribution to the preservation of the Serbian community. The message of this year’s Vidovdan Academy is that historical heritage, language, religion and culture are preserved through unity and passing on to younger generations, as a lasting pledge of survival of the Serbian people outside the homeland.

On the occasion of Vidovdan celebration, a cultural evening was held at the Serbian Embassy in Sweden, with the program dedicated to the spiritual, historical and cultural significance of Vidovdan and its place in Serbian tradition. The artistic part of the program included Serbian-Swedish artist Jelena Mila. Diaspora representative Nikola Nikolić gave a speech followed by a presentation on the historical and spiritual significance of Vidovdan.

The spirit of Vidovdan remains a permanent beacon of national identity, which is proudly preserved and passed on to future generations.
