The Minister without portfolio in the Government of the Republic of Serbia responsible for monitoring the situation, proposing measures and participating in the coordination of activities in the field of relations with the diaspora, Đorđe Milićević, officially opened the first in a series of thematic summer camps for children from the diaspora and the region in Topola, entitled Paths of Heroes.
The project is being implemented at the initiative of the minister’s office, in cooperation with local governments.
Milićević said that more than 150 children from Italy, Hungary, Romania, Republic of Srpska, Austria and other regions where our people live would visit Topola and participate in the sports and educational camp.
According to him, this camp is not only an opportunity for sports, play and competition, but also a place where children will get to know Serbia, the Serbian language, our history, culture and tradition even better through socializing, unity and learning.
The Minister told the participants that the most important thing to take away from this camp was not just results and medals, but new friendships, beautiful memories and the feeling of belonging to a great nation with strong roots.
He stated that the camp entitled Paths of Heroes reminded us that heroism was not only in the past, but heroism was also when we preserve our language, script, our origins, family and love for Serbia.
Milićević said that these camps were part of the state’s broader care for children from the diaspora and the region, adding that his office had worked actively to strengthen cooperation with local governments, as well as with the Sports Association of Serbia, in order to make the stay of children and youth in their homeland more meaningful and comprehensive.
