The Đedovina (grandfatherland) Herzegovina House has been opened in Sečanj municipality, colonized by many Herzegovinians, and it will offer visitors the opportunity to see rich historical materials about the Herzegovinian colonization in Banat.
In a museum form, the Herzegovina House will display objects and photos of the families that had settled in Sečanj and other Banat villages.
Vajo Milošević, a member of the Erceg Group and a descendant of Herzegovinians, said that he was happy that their ancestors’ tradition would be preserved in this way.
At the Herzegovina House opening ceremony, the Head of the Republic of Srpska Representative Office in Serbia, Mlađen Cicović, said that Herzegovinians demonstrated properly how to maintain ties with the homeland and how to preserve the culture, traditions and customs of the homeland.
– I was thinking about what I could possibly say to those hailing from Herzegovina that they have not said and that their illustrious ancestors had not incorporated into the foundations of the Serbian national identity. What can I say to you who demonstrate properly how and the way to preserve tradition, culture, customs and everything left in your homeland – said Cicović.
According to him, all that Herzegovinians do contributes to the overall relations of Serbs from both sides of the Drina River.
– Only united and collected can we resist our temptations and challenges – said Cicović and added that relations between Srpska and Serbia had never been better.
He stated that the Serbian people had always known how to respect their past, and that he believed they would be able to resist all temptations.
