New supplementary schools of the Serbian language, organized by the Viennese Prosvjeta, have started operating in Austria, and enrollment will be extended until the end of October.
The newest schools have been launched in Braunau, Gmunden, Enns, Steyr, St. Pölten, Linz, and two in Vienna, announced the SPKD Prosvjeta in Austria.
Prosvjeta states that this important project, in addition to the great multiannual effort of their team, has been made possible by great support and co-financing from the Directorate for Cooperation with the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region headed by Arnaud Gouillon, as well as the traditional support of the Austrian-Swiss Eparchy, the clergy and the blessing of Bishop Andrej.
The President of Prosvjeta, Srđan Mijalković, is satisfied that the Network of Serbian Schools in Austria is growing and invited all people, associations and organizations to establish cooperation and continue with the formation of new schools of supplementary classes, due to their importance and great needs.
He said that in the past months they traveled around Austria, formed new schools, met and prepared with new teachers, and that they mostly met with our people, who, without exception, received with great joy the opportunity for their children to learn Cyrillic script and Serbian language, as well as the history, tradition, geography, culture not only of Serbia and Srpska, but of all areas where Serbs live.
One of the teachers, Vesna Špirić, says that Viennese schools never had more students, the classrooms are overcrowded and additional places are requested.
‘The two new classes that we have opened are not enough to accommodate all students who want to attend the school, so it is possible that the school will expand in the future,’ Špirić pointed out.
The enrollment and beginning of the new school year was interesting in all schools, and in Vienna it was marked by a beautiful excursion. A Trails of Vuk Karadžić tour was organized yesterday in order to introduce students to the Cyrillic alphabet and what they would learn in the schools, led by historian Zlatan Stojadinović.
Information on enrollment are available via the email office@prosvjeta.at, as well as in churches and associations – in Linz in the premises of the Church of St. Basil, in St. Pölten in the premises of the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle, in Enns and Steyr the Church of the Translation of the Relics of St. Sava, in Gmunden the Church of St. George, in Braunau the Parish of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Mark, and in Vienna – in the premises of the Association of Serbs and in the premises of the Serbian Center.
In addition, the previous classes in Vienna continue to work in the premises of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in the second district, in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin in the sixteenth, in the Church of St. Sava in the third district of Vienna.
The supplementary school also includes the preschool groups Little Chatting School and the very successful Prosvjeta’s Little Choir.
Prosvjeta states that all recommended epidemiological measures are being respected.
