Serbian Government’s minister without portfolio in charge of the diaspora, Đorđe Milićević, yesterday opened a themed sports and leisure camp in Vrnjačka Banja, bringing together children from the diaspora and the region.
At the opening of the camp, which includes more than 120 children aged 10 to 15 from the diaspora and the region, Milićević said that they should feel at home in Serbia and that they were part of a big family, and added that the camp aimed to create unbreakable bonds not only among the participants, but also with Serbia, as their permanent spiritual and cultural homeland.
– This camp is not just a space for sports activities and new knowledge. It is living proof of how much we care about each of our children living outside Serbia. Our wish is that children growing up far from their homeland feel the atmosphere of their ancestral land, learn the Serbian language, fall in love with Serbian culture, discover something new about their history and connect with their peers from Serbia – he said.
– Such ties are the guarantee of a strong, assembled and united Serbia, wherever they live – stated Milićević.
He added that under the auspices of Serbian Ministry of Sports, this camp had been enriched also with sports facilities.
– Therefore, it is our duty to support them, to encourage them, and to give them the opportunity to get to know their origins better. I am sure they will leave this camp with memories, friendships and values that will tie them to Serbia for life. Dear children, be proud of your origins. Serbia is your home, always open, warm and proud of you. Welcome home – said Milićević.
