The event Lopare Days of the Diaspora 2024 was officially opened with a folklore show in Priboj.

The thirteenth Diaspora Days, organized under the auspices of the Municipality of Lopare and the Association of Majevicans in Switzerland, was opened by the head of the local community, Rado Savić.

He said that this year’s event was being held under the slogan Save the Native Land, meaning that Majevicans living in the motherland and Majvicans living in the diaspora should make every effort to preserve their native land.

Irena Lukić, president of the Serbian educational and cultural society Prosvjeta Lopare, said that the local community had provided full support for the event organized by the society.

‘Seven cultural and artistic societies from Parteš and Pasjane from Kosovo and Metohija, Bijeljina, Tuzla, Ugljevik, Priboj and Lopare are taking part in the Folklore Show. Folklore sections, singing groups and instrumentalists performed,’ Lukić said.

Davor Petković, head of the Kosovo Pomoravlje District, noted that he had heard a lot of good said about Majevica’s climate.

‘It is a great honor for me today to attend this wonderful event and the meeting of those wonderful children who will continue our tradition,’ said Petković.

Representatives of the Kosovo Pomoravlje District and the Municipality of Parteš – Pasjane from Kosovo and Metohija, currently staying at the Municipality of Lopare on the occasion of the Diaspora Days, visited municipal administration, Majevica House, memorial room and Jelena cold storage and orchard, which are part of the company Fruktum owned by Dragan Jović.

‘We presented them the natural potential for plum production in Majevica and Mr Jović’s successful investment in a complete system for the production, storage, purchase and marketing of plums and other types of fruit, and the potential for investment in agriculture,’ said the Head of Lopare Municipality, Rado Savić, who joined his colleagues and guests in visiting the above localities.
