The event Encounters on the Drina – Bridges of Serbian Unity was held in Višegrad. It said that the Serbian people remained united and unwavering.

The event began with the participants gathering on the Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge, where the 80-meter-long flags of the Republic of Srpska and Serbia were unfurled. This was followed by a parade to Andrićgrad, where, after the national anthems of Srpska and Serbia had been played on Petar Petrović Njegoš Square, officials addressed the gathering and a cultural and artistic program was held.

The event was attended by the Republic of Srpska’s President Milorad Dodik, Prime Minister Radovan Višković, Serbia’s Prime Minister Đuro Macut and ministers of the Serbian Government.

The President of the Republic of Srpska, Milorad Dodik, recalled that a year ago, Serbs had gathered in Belgrade at the All-Serbian Assembly and vowed to change the course of history and clearly state their wishes.

– Much has been done since then. We have had many meetings working on harmonizing individual acts in the Republic of Srpska and Serbia. We said we were a single people, a historical people standing behind their two states – the Republic of Srpska and Serbia with Kosovo and Metohija as its integral part. We are not Bosnian, Montenegrin, Croatian, Kosovo Serbs, but a single people – said Dodik.

Srpska’s Prime Minister recalled that today’s gathering followed a year after the All-Serbian Assembly and called for sobornost, unity and support for those defending the Republic of Srpska, Serbia and the Serbian people on both sides of the Drina.

– We must persevere, our fate is in our hands. Long live Srpska and Serbia – said Višković.

The Serbian Prime Minister said that the sobornost and unity of the Serbian people were crucial, emphasizing the importance of preserving peace and the state guaranteeing that peace.

– This gathering is of historical importance, to show that we are together and that we will protect the Republic of Srpska and Serbia – said Macut.

During the encounters on the bridge, Dodik and Macut symbolically tied the flags of Srpska and Serbia.

The event, which took place for the first time, was jointly organized by the governments of Srpska and Serbia.

Encounters on the Drina - Bridges of Serbian Unity is a symbol of ties between the Serbian people on both sides of the Drina, but also the first anniversary of the All-Serbian Assembly.
