Last evening, the Association of Serbian Clubs in Vienna organized the traditional reception on the occasion of the Serbian New Year, which was an opportunity to meet old friends and express gratitude to the institutions that had supported the operation of our clubs in the past year.
President of the Association Radmila Maksimović said that this year’s reception was co-organized by the Association of Serbian Businessmen.
The Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Austria, Siniša Bencun, stated that Serbian associations contributed to better coexistence with their operation. Bencun said that with its numerous activities, the diaspora showed that it was an increasingly recognized community in Austria, and expressed his hope that future activities would be supported even more strongly by local authorities.
Councilor Aslihan Bozatemur, envoy of the Mayor of Vienna Michael Ludwig, said that Vienna was proud of the Serbian community. ‘Today, there are 75,000 people with Serbian citizenship living in Vienna, and more than 100,000 people of Serbian origin. Vienna is the third largest Serbian city. Serbs make a great contribution in many areas,’ she said.
Same as every year, the reception includes presentation of golden plaques for special contributions during the past year. The Total Fit club, which succeeded in gathering more than 150 members in a short time, received the Association’s Golden Plaque this year. The Golden Plaque for excellent cooperation was awarded also to the theater Akzent, with which Serbian associations have excellent relations and always find an open door. In addition, Dragiša Radulović, publisher of the Zavičaj magazine, was also awarded the Golden Plaque for decades of documenting the activities of the diaspora.
