The Day of the Police of the Republic of Srpska was marked by holding of a memorial service and laying of wreaths at the Central Memorial to Fallen and Missing Members of the MoI in Banja Luka.

Wreaths were laid at the Central Memorial by the President of the Republic of Srpska, Želјka Cvijanović, Minister Dragan Lukač, Director of the Police, Siniša Kostrešević, and Serb member and Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Milorad Dodik.

The President of Srpska said that the police of the Republic of Srpska was the only armed and uniformed force of the Republic and one of its basic pillars and supports.

The Serb member and Chairman of the Presidency of BiH said that without a strong institution such as the Republic of Srpska Police, it would not be possible to defend Srpska, or to preserve its freedom, and noted that the citizens of Srpska had to have additional trust in the police because it worked in their best interests and guaranteed the stability of Srpska.

Minister Lukač said that everyone in the Republic of Srpska was eternally grateful to the fallen members of the Ministry of the Interior, 782 of them who gave their lives for the defense of Srpska.

This was preceded by a memorial service, laying of wreaths and lighting of candles at the Memorial in front of the Banja Luka Police Administration building.

To defend the Republic of Srpska, 782 members of the police laid down their lives.

The Police Day was marked throughout the Republic of Srpska.

The Republic of Srpska Police was formed on 4 April 1992 and is the executive institution, operational and investigative body of the Ministry of the Interior. The main organizational units of the Republic of Srpska Police are the police administrations, which inherited the former public security centers in accordance with the formation changes from 2017. More complex police tasks are entrusted to the members of the Gendarmerie, and the most elite formation is the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit.
