The Union of Serbs of France organized their cocktail party last evening in Paris. The idea was for the Union members, new members and guests to get to know each other and to learn about the activities of the new administration of the Union elected in March this year.

The Paris’s 17th arrondissement saw a parade of guests consisting of representatives of French and Serbian organizations, French politicians, senators, councilors of many municipalities not only from the French capital but also from the neighboring cities, writers, lawyers, Serbian supplementary school teachers, doctors, professors, architects, engineers, etc. The mayor of this Parisian arrondissement, the Republican Geoffroy Boulard, who has also been the Vice President of the Greater Paris Metropolis in charge of communication and digital innovation since 2020, paid a special courtesy despite his many engagements.

The president of the Union of Serbs of France, David Jakovljević, gave an exhaustive speech in both French and Serbian to present the Union’s activity during these past six months. He briefly explained to the French present the current situation and a way to cooperate with the country of origin in compliance with French laws that are highly respected in this organization. For Serbs, the interlocutor of the Union association members and in general can only be the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia or Bosnia and Herzegovina or Montenegro and not those countries’ individual ministries. The president of the Union of Serbs of France said that the Union was only the coordinator of the associations before many organizations and did not influence their policy of running the associations. He expressed great support to all associations and especially to Union members for everything they did in the interest of the Serbian people.

He informed the audience about some of the many actions of the Union and at the same time announced some of the many actions in the next six months to take place in many locations in France, which is the idea of this organization, to be present throughout the French territory and not only in Paris and its surroundings. As one of the main actions, Jakovljević announced Serbian children from Kosovo and Metohija visiting France, and French students visiting many places, in particular Jasenovac and Kozarska Dubica, in order to learn about the suffering of our, Jewish and Roma people in those locations.
